A centrifuge is a piece of equipment, generally driven by an electric motor (some older models were spun by hand), that puts an object in rotation around a fixed axis, applying a force perpendicular to the axis. A centrifuge is also used to separate the components of blood in blood banks. The centrifuge works using the sedimentation principle, where the centripetal acceleration causes denser substances to separate out along the radial direction (the bottom of the tube). By the same token lighter objects will tend to move to the top (of the tube; in the rotating picture, move to the center).
Decanter centrifuge is a important equipment in solid control system. It is widely used in drilling waste management system and oilfield mud circulation system. Decanting Centrifuge separate the suspending fluids using  the principle of centrifugal action, the suspending fluids is pushed into the rotor drum through the inlet pipe and the fluid hole of the spiral feeder. Under the influence of centrifugal force, solid phase particles are pushed to the internal wall of the drum, then to the mud export of the small end of the drum and excreted. But the fluids is excreted from the overflow hole of the large end. Such cycle is in order to achieve the purpose of continuous separation.High speed decanting centrifuge is effective for separation 

Drilling Fluid Centrifuge Working Principle

Decanter centrifuge is one of the equipment in solids control system on oil field. It consists of a conveying screw inside a rotating bowl By exerting increased G-force on the drilling fluid, the particles are accelerated and settle on the outside of the bowl The free liquid pool is removed and the solids are pushed away and discharged from the bowl. It have several functions
The heart of KOSUN decanter centrifuge is its high-speed,precision-balanced rotating stainless-steel bowl. Inside the bowl, a screw conveyor rotates in the same direction as the bowl but at a slightly slower RPM. Feed slurry enters through a stationary hollow tube at the narrow end and is distributed to the bow. Centrifugal force as high as 3063 G's at 3900 RPM which put the slurry against the bowl wall in a "pool". Trapped silt and particles settle and spread against the bowl wall where they are conveyed to the solids underflow discharge port by tungsten-carbide-tipped scroll flights.

The application of oil drilling solids control decanter centrifuge

In the oilfield drilling, decanter centrifuge is used frequently and is necessary to effectively control solids particles in the drilling fluids. Decanter centrifuge is also called horizontal screw discharge sedimentation centrifuge, is the special solids control equipment of solid-liquid separation, designed by the characteristic of drilling fluid. It can accomplish each procedure of feed, centrifugal sedimentation, unloading, etc.

Decanter centrifuge is driven by two motors. The main motor drives the drum and the outer casing of differential through belts while the auxiliary motor, after the differential shifting speed, drives the spiral propeller. This will make the drum and the spiral propeller rotate in the same direction with a certain differential speed. And when the material is fed into the inner canister of the spiral propeller from the feed pipe, the material will be flowing to the drum wall through material exit. The degree phase of the material is different because it is subjected to different centrifugal force and so, the material with heavy phase will be quickly accumulated onto the inner wall of drum while the material with light phase will slowly stick to the surface of heavy phase, a layer of interface to be formed between degree phases. And along with increase of heavy phase accumulation, the top end of spiral vanes will be inserted into the accumulated layer of heavy phase. By this step, the drum and spiral impeller are rotating with high speed in the same direction, having differential speed value to some extent. And the relative revolution difference is making grain of heavy phase move to the material exit on the small end while the liquid of light phase is forming into passage, flowing to the exit of liquid phase. The overflowing mouth position of liquid phase is controlled by the regulating plate.

Mud/gas separator is the short name of drilling fluid and gas separator, is a special equipment of drilling gas-liquid separator for gas drilling fluid degassing. KOSUN drilling mud vacuum degasser usage in a solids controrl

Degasser is also called degassing pot, mainly used in degassing the fruit juice in vacuum to stop the oxidization and turning brown, at the same time, removing the gas attaching to the suspended particulates, stopping the particles upping, improving the looking, reducing bubbles in high temperature sterilizing and filling, and reducing the corrosion. Degasser can also be used in producing liquid milk, and beverage contenting milk. Normally, vacuum degassing is after homogenizing, and sometimes, is before filling. 


Vacuum degassers have more moving parts and higher initial cost. This is due primarily to the vacuum pump and attendant components. They are, however, much more efficient. Because gas volume is inversely proportional to pressure, gas bubbles surface from a fluid more rapidly under pressure. By combining impact and turbulence features with low pressure, modern vacuum degassers prove to be fast acting and highly effective in separating dissolved gasses.

Drilling fluid mud agitator is used in surface mud system in mud tank

mud agitator is used in surface mud systems to suspend solids and maintain homogeneous mixture throughout the system. A mechanical agitator is driven by an explosion-proof motor, coupled to a gear box that drives the impeller shaft. The impellers (turbines) transform mechanical power into fluid circulation or agitation. The objective is to obtain a uniform suspension of all solids.
