The Drilling Mud Cleaner Advantages As A Solids Control Equipment

As one of the important solids control equipment for drilling mud system, the drilling mud cleaner, also called desander and desilter assembly, mainly consists of three parts including desander, desilter and the underflow screen. It can achieve separation of two stage with the hydrocyclone mounted over the shale shaker. Compared with the independent desander and desilter, the product has much higher working efficiency. Same as the shale shaker in function, the equipment is designed rationally with compact structure, small volume and powerful performance.
Compared with the traditional desander and desilter, mud cleaner is the upgrade product. It belongs the second or third level solids control equipment in the drilling fluid solids control systems, it is the complex of hydrocyclone desander, hydrocyclone desilter and the shale shaker.

The structure of mud cleaner include desander, desilter, pressure pump, hydrocyclone, bottom flow slot, drilling fluid shale shaker, support and base. the characteristic is there is a control butterfly valve between the main inlet tube and drainpipe of desander and desilter, on the base there is a chute, the shale shaker is located on the chute. In the swirler, there are automatic sand blocking prevention equipment and bottom flow port regulation equipment.

Drilling Mud 5 Stages Solids Control System

First stage of solids control

Shale shaker is widely known as a solids control equipments used in drilling projects. It is a very basic equipment that could separate the drilling cutting more than 250 microns by fine mesh screens. During this stage, actually, the solids control and purification happens at the same time. Just as its name implies, solids control is separate the solids from the fluids, while the drilling cutting and other large size impurities being separated, the drilling mud is purified.

Second stage of solids control

A vacuum degasser could be functioned as the second stage purification equipments. During this stage, there is no solids separated from the drilling mud, just the invasive air is removed. Fourth stage of solids control

Same working principle with desander, desilter cones separate the particles of 16 microns. Desander differs desilter by the size of hydrocyclone.

KOSUN Drilling Mud Decanter Centrifuge Is Ideal Choice Solids Control

A centrifuge is a piece of equipment, generally driven by an electric motor (some older models were spun by hand), that puts an object in rotation around a fixed axis, applying a force perpendicular to the axis. A centrifuge is also used to separate the components of blood in blood banks. The centrifuge works using the sedimentation principle, where the centripetal acceleration causes denser substances to separate out along the radial direction (the bottom of the tube). By the same token lighter objects will tend to move to the top (of the tube; in the rotating picture, move to the center).
A drilling mud decanter centrifuge works by spinning a vessel containing the material to be 
separated at high speed. It is very much like the rides at the fairground that rotate. 
You have to lean towards the center to overcome the force caused by the rotation. In fact, some rides are designed specifically to press your body against a back support. The decanter centrifuge spins at very high speeds and pushes the heavy phase, usually the solids, to the outside of the vessel, just as you would see in the clear flask standing on the bench top.


Decanter Centrifuge is the key equipment of dealing with the super fine hazardous solid phase. Decanting centrifuge can depart and recycle the solid phase larger than 5µm, recover the density of drilling fluid quickly and increase the drilling speed. Decanter centrifuge is the ideal oilfield drilling fluid purified equipment.

mud cleaner is a combination of desanders and/or desilters mounted over a shaker with a fine mesh screen. A mud is fed to the inlet of the hydrocyclone (desander and/or desilter) to separate particles and the underflow passes to the fine screen mesh where in particles larger than barite are discarded and thrown away. In most drilling operations, a mud cleaner is installed in its mud systems. It is usually located in a mud tank in the same location as with the desilters.
